Judaism INsight Out #90 Meaning vs Purpose:
The ‘Flintstones’ from Jim Schwartz ‘The INstigator’
Fixing ‘outside in’ assumes ‘to do is to be’ and thus —
To be is to do (Aristotle)
To be or not to be (Hamlet);
To do is to be (Sartre)
To be is to do (Kant)
Do be do be do (Sinatra)
And of course there is
Just do it (Nike)
Mountain Do (Dew- Pepsi)
and
Yaba Dabba Do (Fred Flintstone)
A better question for reigniting meaning IN one’s life through Judaic connection again is: not just do be do be do or, be do be do but rather a process a system (i.e. be it a springboard/stepping stone like Judaism On Purpose’s™ curriculum/process) to get to how – how to be or not to be – which, again, individually the Synagogues, in form, function, capacity nor the Pulpit Rabbis can provide given the perspective of sage on the stage (spiritual leader) rather than guide by the side (resource concierge of meaning).
Of course, if all else fails there is The Doo Bee Brothers – for an altered (not altar-ed) state.
Meaning (INside out) is intention, significance, reason – which is materialized (fulfilled or not) by purpose INside Out. (Note: one can have purpose without meaning, i.e., the ant has purpose).
INside out is meant to be; meant to do rather than meant to do and thus meant to be.
The Outside in orientation – hijacking Tikkun Olam – finds the synagogue delivery system of Judaism – in part in the Barney Rubble (without Betty) but plenty of Bam-Bam of disaffected alienated Jews.
